Organ Vida Festival Open Call / Deadline: 15 June / Entry fee: €20 - €30

Organ Vida international photography organisation – theleading Croatian institution for promoting and researching contemporaryphotography – is inviting artists from all over the world working in the mediumof photography to apply to their open call and respond to the theme Engaged, Active, Aware - Women's Perspectives Now. “In the midst of initiatives such as #MeToo, Free the Nipple, The Future is Female, and phenomena such as the female gaze, it is necessary to re-examine the current role of photography in representing and articulating women's experiences” writes Marina Paulenka, Organ Vida Festival’s Artistic Director. “[We need] to critically rethink how digital culture is transforming feminist approaches to the image” she continues.

20 artists will be selected to exhibit their work at the maincurated exhibition at the 10th edition of Organ Vida Festival at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb from 10 through 30 September, 2018. The international jury features Arvida Byström (artist), Fiona Rogers (Global Director of Business Development for Magnum Photos International), Katalin Ladik (poet, performance artist and actress), Nina Berman (documentaryphotographer, filmmaker, author and educator), Tomoko Sawada (artist), and Laia Abril (multidisciplinary artist). When reviewing the submissions the panel willbe placing particular emphasis on the inclusion and appreciation of diverse attitudes and different cultural and geographic contexts that can jointly, in the framework of the curatorial concept, provide an overview of the current situation in the global socio-political and feminist scene.

Applicants must send their artwork (at least one projectwith up to 25 photographs, images, sketches) via the Picter platform and pay a €30 entry fee (€20 for Balkan countries (excluding Yugoslavia + Albania)). The submission deadline is 15 June. Learn more at picter.com/organvida.

Photo Vogue Festival #AnewRenaissance Open Call / Deadline: End of August / No entry fee

As part of the launch of the new Huawei P20 and Huawei P20 Pro photo cameras, Huawei and Vogue Italia have teamed up to call all photographers to take up the challenge to represent the concept, #AnewRenaissance visually for the third edition of Photo Vogue Festival, to be held in Milan this November. From now through the end of August, Vogue Italia's photo editors will be conducting a scouting process on Instagram to award the 50 best photos uploaded featuring the hashtags, #AnewRenaissance and #HUAWEIPVF2018.

The winning images will be showcased on vogue.it and five selected photographers will be reporting for Vogue Italia during the Milan Fashion Week with the two Huawei P20 and P20 Pro cameras for the November issue of the magazine. The 50 photos chosen from the scouting process and work of the fashion week diaries will also be collated in a book to be distributed during the international event. Capricious Photo Award / Deadline: 15 June / No entry fee

Fine art photography magazine, Capricious – an internationalplatform for under-represented artists – is currently accepting submissions for its annual competition that grants one emerging photographer the opportunity to publish a limited edition photobook. The winner will receive both financial and editorial resources, valued at $10,000, geared towards the production anddissemination of the publication.

The jury this year includes Sophie Mörner (CapriciousFounder and Publisher), Anika Sabin (Capricious Senior Editor and Associate Publisher), Lauren Cornell (Director of the Graduate Program and Chief Curator at CCS Bard), Katherine Hubbard (interdisciplinary artist), Matt Keegan (visual artist), Guadalupe Rosales (artist and archivist), Ka-Man Tse (photographer and video artist), Leilah Weinraub (Filmmaker and CEO of Hood by Air), and Lyndsy Welgos (Founder of Topical Cream). Together they will be looking for a photographer whose work is both distinct in point of view and boldly relevant to the unfolding issues of our time.

Photographers can submit up to two projects with 15 to 20images per project. No entry fee. The final deadline is set for 15 June.Further information can be found at picter.com/capricious.

Pano Awards / Deadline: 10 July / Entry fee: $16 - $22

The Epson International Pano Awards are dedicated to thecraft and art of both professional and amateur panoramic photographers. In this, the 9th edition, the total prize pool is more than $50,000 and includes $20,000 in cash. 

In the Open competition (open to all photographers), the winning prize package totals $10,600 and is comprised of a $3,000 monetary endowment, Triple Scoop Music vouchers, and the latest digital printing equipment. The winners of the three special awards, namely the Carolyn Mitchum Award, Epson Digital Art Prize, and the Curator’s Award, will each be granted cash prizes of $5,000, $1,000 and $1,000 respectively, while a number of other smaller awards are also on offer, including Highest Scoring Gigapixel Image, Highest Scoring Aerial Image, Highest Scoring Vertical Image, and Highest Scoring FilmCapture. The submission fee is $22 per image. The Amateur competition (open to non-professional / amateur and student photographers only) has a prize package totalling $7,250 consisting of $1,500 in cash, a Nikon camera with lens, and a$250 Atkins Photo Lab voucher. Applications are $18 per image.

Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize / Deadline: 12 June / No entry fee

Organised by The National Portrait Gallery, London, the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize is the leading international competition of its kind, celebrating and promoting the very best in contemporary portrait photography. All submitted images will be reviewed anonymously by a panel of judges and the entrants who are successful will be invited to deliver their work to a venue in London for a final round of live judging. One winner will receive a £15,000 endowment.

The Pierre & Alexandra Boulat Grant / Deadline: 14 June / No entry fee

Established by the Pierre and Alexandra Boulat Association to promote the creation of documentary work with a social purpose, the Pierre and Alexandra Boulat Grant offers a €8,000 endowment to a photographer looking to produce a story that has never been told and cannot find support for within the media. Cortona On The Move Photobook Prize / Deadline: 17 June / No entry fee

For the third year running, international Italian festival Cortona On The Move is inviting all photographers around the world – professional and amateur alike – to submit dummies for participation in their Photobook Prize. The sole juror this year is Lesley Martin of Aperture. On 14 July – during the festival’s opening weekend – Martin will discuss the finalists’ projects in an open presentation with the public and announce the winner, whose prizes include the production and publication of the dummy in addition to an exhibition of the work at the 2019 edition of COTM.

Photo Vogue Festival Exhibition / Deadline: end of July / No entry fee

In November this year, the Italian city of Milan will become a stage for the celebration of photography, with the third edition of Photo Vogue Festival set to bring together leading visual storytellers, the most influential curators, and the most prestigious agencies. Among the highlights will be a special exhibition dedicated to the discovery and appreciation of varying aesthetic models within individual cultures. The works on display will be selected by a jury featuring, among others, Monica Allende, Tasneem Alsultan, Giorgio Armani, James Estrin, Alessia Glaviano, Azu Nwagbogu, Ramón Reverté, and Newsha Tavakolian.

Unseen Dummy Award 2018 / Deadline: 10 August / Entry fee: €30

Dutch international photography platform, Unseen and publishing company, Lecturis have come together once again in a creative collaboration to award and showcase the dummies of designers and photographers worldwide. A jury featuring leading industry figures will convene on the opening day of Unseen 2018 (21 - 23 September) and select three runners-up, and one winner, who shall have their book published next year and presented at Unseen 2019.

PhotogrVphy Grant / Deadline: 31 August / No entry fee

The annual PhotogrVphy Grant aims to support the work of emerging visual storytellers through cash prizes and exposure to industry professionals. Photographers can submit a project sharing a common theme in one of the five categories, namely Daily Life, Body, Climate, Experimental, and Urban, with one grand prize winner to receive US$1,000. The jury this year features 20 names from the world of photography, including Alison Zavos, Rohit Vohra, Steve Bisson, Gianpaolo Arena, Robyn Lange, and Kim Aram.
