We know that searching through the masses of international photography competitions and selecting the most appropriate for you can be a daunting task. Fortunately, we have done the hard work for you and curated a list of what is coming up in the world of photography awards and grants throughout February. Aimed at early, mid-career, and professional photographers, this list offers details of what awards are open for entry and when.


CDS Documentary Essay Prize

The CDS Documentary Essay Prize honors great work in the fields of photography and writing in alternate years. The prize this year is dedicated to photography. The winner will claim $3,000 and have their work featured in the Center for Documentary Studies periodical, Document.

Submissions for the CDS Documentary Essay Prize in Photography will be accepted from November 2nd, 2015, to February 16th, 2016. The winner will be publicly announced in June 2016.

Next Photography Award (in partnership with Getty Images)

The Next Photographer Award focuses on showcasing the next generation of talented photographers from around the world. The contest is aimed specifically at those who have had less than the majority (50%) of their income coming from their photographic practice in the last three years. Prizes include: mentoring for high profile figures in the industry, namely Fallon Head of Art Production Sarah Thomson, adam&eveDDB Head of Print Daniel Moorey, AMV BBDO Creative Production Partner Kirstie Johnstone, and McCann London Head of Art Buying Ross Walker; a $5,000 grant from Getty Images to go towards the realization of a dream photography project; and an exhibition at the Truman Brewery, London.

Entries must be submitted by February 17th, 2016.

Alexia Foundation Grant

The goal of the Alexia Foundation Grants is to give voice to those who go unheard, foster cultural understanding and expose social injustice. The grants are awarded to photographers who clearly and concisely propose significant projects that share in the Foundation’s mission.

The application deadline for the professional grant is Sunday, February 7, 2016 at 2 pm EST time. The deadline for the student grants is Thursday, March 3, 2016, at 2 pm EST time.
