Set in the iconic hilltop village in the heart of Tuscany, the 7th edition of Cortona On The Move opens on 13-16 July with a program of 21 exhibitions and such guests as Donna Ferrato, Donald Weber and Matt Black.

Under the curatorship of Arianna Rinaldo, the new edition of Cortona On The Move will open its doors on 13 July. The festival will stay loyal to its tradition while expanding its horizons, aiming to be a "dynamic showcase for contemporary photography, for visual storytellers, for lovers of knowledge and for anyone looking for excitement." Donna Ferrato, Donald Weber, Matt Black, Justyna Mielnikiewicz, and Miyuki Okuyama are among the many recognised professionals who will participate in the inaugural weekend activities with talks, portfolio reviews, book signings and guided tours of their exhibitions.

EXHIBITIONS / The festival's exhibition program is growing year after year, this time offering 21 official shows hosted across the town's historical buildings. Among them: Donna Ferrato's American Woman: 40 years (1970-2000's), a retrospective of her domestic violence, personal, and swingers’ archives, which are brought together into one exhibition for the first time; Donald Weber's War Sand, a visual investigation of the D-Day beaches using the latest techniques of forensic analysis; The Geography of Poverty by Matt Black, who travelled more than 50,000 km over the past couple of years to document the U.S. communities whose poverty rates are in excess of 20%; and Sandra Mehl's Ilona and Maddelena, the story of two young French sisters living in the working class neighbourhoods of Montpellier with which Sandra won the PHM 2017 Grant Cortona OTM Prize.

PORTFOLIO REVIEWS / During the opening weekend, the festival will offer you the opportunity to get your work in front of recognised photo editors, gallerists and curators like Sarah Leen (National Geographic Director of Photography), Monica Allende (FORMAT17 International Photography Director, GetxoPhoto 2017-2019 festival Artistic Director), Renata Ferri (chief Picture Editor of Io Donna and AMICA) and Giuseppe Oliverio (PHmuseum Founder and Director). Here you can book Basic (20 minutes) and Premium (60 minutes) slots.

CALL FOR PHOTOBOOK DUMMY / Hannah Watson - the Director of Trolley Books and contemporary art gallery, TJ Boulting - will be reviewing the submissions during the first week of July and will select the best dummies. The winning dummy will be published as a book through COTM and will be exhibited at the festival in 2018. Five dummies will also be reviewed in a public presentation held by Hannah during the inaugural days of the festival.

SUMMER SCHOOL / A new initiative presented this year in partnership with Canon Academy will grant students the opportunity to attend workshops throughout the duration of the festival. Two and a half months of technical and creative tutoring under the guidance of top contemporary photographers. They represent a great opportunity to learn, and to enjoy the tuscan countryside. You can find out more and register here.
