±100

In the last 10 years, the number of centenarians worldwide has rapidly increased, many of those still live independently and ±100 aims to tell their stories.

In the last 10 years, the number of centenarians worldwide has rapidly increased and this trend is set to continue. According to recent studies, every third girl born in Germany in 2019 will reach the age of 100. If this holds true, the first 150-year-old person may already live among us.

Many people between the age of 90 and 100 still live independently and ±100 aims to tell their stories. How do they manage everyday life? What’s on people’s minds? What skills they perhaps only acquire at such a ripe old age?

People of this age are often perceived or portrayed as frail and weak. And yet it is precisely these people who have a remarkable degree of resilience, strength, and willpower. Despite diseases, pain, and the limitations that come with it, despite being traumatized by the war and the loss of loved ones – you have to be really tough to still be grateful and have a positive attitude towards the future and life.

The work reflects their perception of the world around them, the happiness and sadness, war, and peace. It covers a wide variety of backgrounds and living spaces and gives us a glimpse into the future.
