the Chaperone

Logan White

2019

"The Chaperone" explores themes of feminine identity, love, and intuition. The relationship between two women is conveyed through form and shadow, ominous silhouettes loom against the backdrop of dry forest, merging and repelling. They are two separate entities whose frequency is affected by proximity and the collective unconscious.

The title of this project is inspired by the history and etymology of the word "Chaperone." Derived from the french word "chaperon," literally meaning hood or head covering, from "chape." In the sport of falconry, a "chaperon" is the hood placed over the head of a bird of prey to suppress its desire to fly away.
