In 2019, I began to take private portraits of people who are currently perceived by Chinese society as “celebrities with huge followings”. These portraits are temporarily unseen and unpriced and lack faces which are highly recognizable masks and symbol. I present these people only with their bodies and very little physical and material elements.
Only I and the subject know who the person in the picture is. This is a “private” process based on trust between the two persons.
Can these “faceless portraits” somehow do away with “huge followings” as the current digitalized measure of people, and the over-consumption and dependence on “faces”?
On the other hand, through the shooting, I allow the participants to detach themselves from their social identities and return to their own selves. Finally, I use the their bodies to reconstruct myself in my own dream world.
