Reduction

These images are self-portraits taken over the course of the last year documenting my breast reduction, pre and post surgery. Photographing myself pre-surgery was an attempt to understand the distance I felt from my body, especially after childbirth and 2 years of breastfeeding. Post-surgery was a journey in figuring out this new body and who I was that lead me to it. All along coming to the slow realization that as a woman, whose body seems to become less recognizable, acceptable or even visible every day, there is an unfamiliarity that may always feel fresh and a shame that has been glaringly ever present.
