The photo project ‘hempen’ focuses on the lives of a group of young farmers growing hemp organically in the UK. People who believe in the future of farming and in the importance of learning about the land and the soil that feeds all of us.
I have visited the farm on a number of occasions, including two harvests in September of 2017 and 2018. Both times I stayed among other volunteers for a duration of 1 week to help with the crop.
The Harvest time is the most waited for time in the year’s cycle, it’s the time of the final effort for people to work together towards their shared vision. Their mission is to cultivate and use sustainable hemp products, that can benefit both people and the planet.
In July 2019 the Home Office has revoked their licence. Now, at the moment of challenge, they remain in harmony with nature finding solutions to create sustainable livelihoods, and making decisions based on principles rather than profit.
