Conversations with Myself (The Exquisite State of Im-Balance)

In each image in this body of work I assume the role of a persona I've conjured up, a version of myself, as I step into a particular costume and setting. The props and garments belonged to women I have known or might have known, and serve as a metaphorical bridge between the past and the present, them and me.

With purposeful ambiguity, I reference the woman as an object of desire, the mask she puts on to step out of the house, and the resignations she may have about where she is and where she might like to be. These are universal and gender fluid issues, complex and elemental concerns of the human condition, of which we are all vulnerable to.

Inspired by place and light, I make these images in conversation with myself, and my camera as partner and mirror, supporting my curiosity to mine hidden truths and understanding.
