In the making of this work Jo Ann enters a state of mental suspension, where a cauldron of memories and references blend to yield these resulting images.
By draping herself with remnants of her past she conjures up a character that is past and present simultaneously. She represents a woman, or any gendered person, who dares to allow the conscious and subconscious to meet and expresses her quiet yet intense inward looking in a strong, matter of fact way. The work is an homage to and for women who past and present endured and surrendered to the weight and responsibilities carried as wives and mothers, traditional female roles, sacrificing personal desires and aspirations, and unrealized potentials. With courage, will and tenacity, her exquisite state of imbalance is considered.
