Nachtgestelle

This series is about hunter’s perches in Germany.

This series is about hunter’s perches in Germany. I am struck by their architectural variety and their inherent beauty. On the other hand, there is something uncanny in these tower like constructions, especially at night. The series is photographed in winter to keep the pictures free from any distracting details. I was inspired by the school of New Objectivity (Bernd and Hilla Becher and their pupils).

As the Bechers did in their work with water towers or framework houses, I used a standardizing, graphical approach for the series. I opted for color photography in order to better grasp the emotional value of the objects.
