For “Of Other Spaces”, an exchange between Moroccan and Dutch photographers I have studied the subject phosphate. In my research for my new project on food production I discovered the importance of the mineral phosphate for our food production and prosperity. This mineral is only to be found in a few countries in the world and the reserves are ending. Morocco is one of these countries and has the world’s largest phosphate reserves. Just as the rest of the world, the Netherlands are highly dependent on the use of phosphate, as this mineral is one of the three main ingredients of fertiliser. It is also an important constituent of animal feed. By bringing together the origin and yield of phosphate I try to symbolise the relationship and dependence between the two countries.
