A Brighter Sun

A BRIGHTER SUN is a series of photographs documenting the Afro-Caribbean diaspora in the London borough of Hackney. At the same time, these pictures investigate the sense of displacement related to my own migrant experience in Britain. I explore themes of longing and isolation in my immediate vicinity, while also contemplating on the ramifications of a fallen Empire and how its shadows are cast over the remnants of the Afro-Caribbean exodus. Through these tender and intimate images, I hope to offer a minuscule kaleidoscope of a bustling immigrant community in a corner of East London, as I try to understand and navigate my own thoughts and experiences as an outsider, using the camera as a means to enter a community and feel part of something, in a country I feel mostly alone.
