The Hunter

The Hunter focuses on my relationship with violence. I collaborated with others recreating scenarios where the photographer took on the role of the perpetrator and the subject was often portrayed as the victim. These photos are an attempt to express the relationship between the victim, perpetrator and the bystander. Loss of control and fear played an important role in the dynamic of these images. We cannot control the actions of others, we can only choose how we respond to it. I want to feel empowered, safe and understand the meaning behind our actions. How does one begin to comprehend this invisible force that has taken ahold of our bodies? Do I become the monster that I am fearful of in order to defeat the sickness from within? To what degree do our actions define us? Defining is itself an act. People define us, and we define ourselves. Many factors play a role in defining who we are, but our actions are easily the most important. We liberate ourselves in the ways that we see fit. Acts of liberation are often misunderstood and scrutinized. Non compliant women are labeled as hysterical, rebellious and are deemed as outcasts by society. It’s no longer enough to be depicted as just a mean girl who destroys her enemies with rumors and gossip. We need to promote empowerment and provide women with the necessary tools for success.
