Welcome to the PhMuseum 2019 Photography Grant (PHM 2018 WPG or Grant).
This document defines the Terms and Conditions (Terms) that govern your use of the PhMuseum 2019 Photography Grant (PHM 2018 WPG or Grant) webpages. These Terms apply between You (You or Entrant), and PHmuseum Ltd (PhMuseum or We), the United Kingdom-based corporation with a registered office at International House, 24 Holborn Viaduct, EC1A 2BN, London, United Kingdom, Company Number 09474210, owning and operating the phmuseum.com website, all the related websites and services and the Photographic Museum of Humanity trademarks.
By ticking the Terms and Conditions box, clicking the Pay and Submit button in the fifth step of the Grant submission process and completing the entry fee payment, You participate in the PHM 2018 WPG and You hereby acknowledge and agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. Please read them carefully before applying to the PHM 2018 WPG.
1. Grant rules
The PHM 2018 Women Photographers Grant begins on 12 September 2018 at 12:01 am Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and ends 17 October 2018 at 11:59 pm (GMT). Entrants can participate by clicking on the Apply Now button available at phmuseum.com/grant and following the guided submission process. Update: the deadline is extended to 24 October 2018 at 11:59pm (GMT).
Entrants must be female or non-binary photographers, and at least 18 years old as of the date of entry. Collaborative projects are accepted, under the condition that at least 50% of the team is composed of female and/or non-binary photographers. Each Entrant can submit one or more “Project”, defined as a set of photos built around a concept or a topic. Each Project must feature a minimum of 8 photos and a maximum of 20 photos that will be taken under consideration by the PHM 2018 WPG Judges. At least 4 photos must have been taken after 1 January 2015. Photos shall be uploaded in Jpg or Jpeg format and each individual photo cannot weigh more than 10 Megabytes. To complete the submission of a Project, the Entrant shall pay an entry fee of GBP 18 for each Project submitted before 27 September 2018 at 11:59 pm (GMT) and an entry fee of GBP 27 for each Project submitted from 28 September 2018 onwards.
Winners will be announced on phmuseum.com/grant within 90 days of the deadline or extended deadline day. By accepting these Terms You agree and accept that the decisions of the Judges are final on all matters relating to the PHM 2018 Women Photographers Grant. PHM 2018 Women Photographers Grant is void where prohibited.
2. Prizes & Judges
The PHM 2018 Women Photographers Grant will offer the following prizes:
- a) PHM 2018 WPG 1st prize: GBP 5,000 plus a projection at Photo Vogue Festival 2018, a publication on YET Magazine and promotion via PhMuseum;
- b) PHM 2018 WPG 2nd prize: GBP 2,000 plus a projection at Photo Vogue Festival 2018, a publication on YET Magazine and promotion via PhMuseum;
- c) PHM 2018 WPG 3rd prize: GBP 1,000 plus a projection at Photo Vogue Festival 2018, a publication on YET Magazine and promotion via PhMuseum;
- d) PHM 2018 WPG New Generation Prize: GBP 2,000 plus automatic nomination for the World Press Photo Joop Swart Masterclass, a projection at Photo Vogue Festival 2018, a publication on YET Magazine and promotion via PhMuseum;
- e) A solo exhibition at the 2019 Verzasca FOTO Festival;
- f) 3 publications on Vogue Italia;
- g) PHM 2018 WPG Main Prize Honorable Mentions
- h) PHM 2018 WPG New Generation Prize Honorable Mentions
Prizes at points (a), (b), (c), (d), (g) and (h) will be assigned by Judges Aida Muluneh, Alessandra Sanguinetti, Karen McQuaid, and Pamela Chen.
Prize at point (e) will be assigned by Judge Alfio Tommasini, director of Verzasca FOTO Festival.
Prize at point (f) will be assigned by Judges Alessia Glaviano, Chiara Bardelli Nonino, and Francesca Marani from Vogue Italia. Photographers who are 30 (thirty) years of age, or less, on the day of the PHM 2018 Women Photographers Grant final deadline are the only applicants eligible for prizes at points (d) and (g).
Each PHM 2018 WPG participant will also benefit from a 20% discount on all the online one-to-one classes available at phmuseum.com/education purchased between 1 November 2018 and 28 February 2019.
3. Candidates undertakings
By ticking the Terms and Conditions box, clicking the Pay and Submit button in the last step of the Grant submission process and completing the entry fee payment, You participate in the PHM 2018 Women Photographers Grant and You hereby acknowledge and agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.
By doing so, You also acknowledge and agree that You will not be able to:
- a) delete or edit any photos of the submitted Project from the PhMuseum website nor alter their order;
- b) delete or edit any information to the submitted Project from the PhMuseum website from the day You submit the Project to 120 days after the PHM 2018 Women Photographers Grant deadline or extended deadline.
By accepting these Terms and entering the PHM 2018 Women Photographers Grant You warrant that all the information submitted is true, current, and complete. You also warrant that You have all the necessary consents in relation to your entry and that You are the copyright owner of any copyright works submitted, e.g. photographs, texts, drawings, and PhMuseum's use of such works will be at no charge, will not infringe the rights of any third party, and You will fully indemnify PhMuseum in the event of any infringement.
You also acknowledge that the full names of the winners may be published by PhMuseum, and You grant to PhMuseum a non-exclusive perpetual, worldwide royalty free license to use and publish your entries in whole or in part in any media form whatsoever, for the purposes of the Grant’s and PhMuseum’s promotion. You also agree that PhMuseum will have the right to use and publish the images for promotional and marketing purposes for the current and future seasons of the Grant on any media worldwide without notice or without any fee being paid.
If the photographs contain any material or elements that are not owned by the Entrant and/or that are subject to the rights of third parties, and/or if any persons appear in the photograph, the Entrant is responsible for obtaining, prior to submission of the photograph, any and all releases and consents necessary to permit the publication, exhibition and use of the photograph in the manner set forth in these Terms without additional compensation. If any person appearing in any photograph is under the age of majority in their state/province/territory of residence the signature of a parent or legal guardian is required on each release.
4. PhMuseum undertakings
PhMuseum commits to credit the due amount to the cash prize winners within 120 days of the winners announcement, provided that the winner communicates via email to PhMuseum (i) valid and complete bank account details and (ii) a copy of a valid ID within 30 days after the winners announcement.
PhMuseum will notify each prize winner at the email address associated to the respective winners’ PhMuseum accounts within 90 days after the Grant closing date. The winner will have 15 days from the day he or she will be notified to answer PhMuseum and claim the prize. If PhMuseum is unable to notify the winner, or if the winner fails to respond within the fixed time period as specified, this may result in forfeiture of the prize and PhMuseum reserves the right to select an alternative winner in accordance with these Terms and the Grant information.
PhMuseum commits to always mention the author copyrights. When You submit photographs to the PhMuseum website, You remain the copyright owner of the photographs You submit to the PhMuseum website and PhMuseum does not claim ownership over the photographs. By ticking the Terms and Conditions box, clicking the Pay and Submit button in the fifth step of the Grant submission process and completing the entry fee payment, You submit Your Series to the PHM 2018 Women Photographers Grant and You make the following representations and warranties:
- a) You can lawfully enter into contracts under applicable law and You are at least 18 years old;
- b) You have obtained and have copies of model releases from all subjects depicted in the photograph(s) You submit to the PHM 2018 Women Photographers Grant, and such persons voluntarily consented to publication and/or dissemination of their likeness for all legal purposes.
Neither PhMuseum nor their associates, affiliates or partners assume any responsibility for photos submitted in violation of these Terms. Images that demonstrate violations on copyright and/or Grant policies will be removed & disqualified by PhMuseum after due investigations.
6. Limitation of liability
By participating, Entrants agree to release, discharge, and hold harmless PhMuseum and each of their respective partners, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising agencies, agents and their employees, officers, directors, and representatives from any claims, losses, and damages arising out of their participation in the PHM 2018 Women Photographers Grant-related activities.
PhMuseum assume no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, or delay in operation or transmission; communications line failure; theft or destruction of or unauthorised access to Grant entries or entry forms; or alteration of entries or entry forms.
PhMuseum is not responsible for any issue with or technical malfunction of any online computer systems, servers or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any email entry to be received on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website, human errors of any kind, or any combination thereof, including any damage to Entrants’ or any other persons’ computers related to or resulting from participation, uploading, or downloading of any materials related to this Grant.
Neither PhMuseum nor its servants, agents, nor any other party or organization involved in the management, promotion, or administration of the Grant or its entry routes or donation of prizes or their agents or subsidiaries involved in the Grant will accept responsibility or liability for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft, destruction, alteration of, or unauthorised access to entries, or entries lost or delayed whether or not arising during operation or transmission as a result of network availability, server functions (including but not limited to security functions by software used by PhMuseum or any third party), virus, malware, trojans, bugs, or other causes outside its control.
7. Dispute and claims
8. Right to cancel or suspend grant
If for any reason the Grant is not capable of running as planned for bugs, worms, trojan horses, denial of service attacks, tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of PhMuseum that corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of this Grant, PhMuseum reserve the right, at their sole discretion, to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the Grant.
PhMuseum cannot promise that the services relating to the Grant will be free from errors or omissions nor that they will be available uninterrupted and in a fully operating condition. These services may be suspended temporarily and without notice in the case of system failure, maintenance or repair or for reasons reasonably beyond the control of PhMuseum. PhMuseum will not be liable in the event that all or any part of the service relating to the Grant is discontinued, modified or changed in any way.
