Five O That's the law

The last project by Gabriele Micalizzi comes from a work on counter-terrorism and security in Milan. Photojournalist active in conflict zones, but originally from Milan, he decided to investigate the two faces of his home town: Milan is not only the European city of the future, of fashion, skyscrapers and aperitifs on the Navigli canals. Milan has a dark side, at the edges and underground – a dark side that is taking over the city, slowly, from the suburbs to the center, out in the open, in the sunlight. The idea also stems from the fact that Milan, as an European city, is in fact a possible target for terrorism, and from the fact that it has a consistent tradition and history of crime.

Gabriele aimed to investigate how his city is trying to prevent and combat, in addition to daily crime, the case of a terrorist attack. This project comes after the one realized in the now famous "Rogoredo grove", one of the most extensive drug market squares in Milan, managed by the ‘ndrangheta. Rogoredo is the nearest southern suburb, and what happens in the grove is becoming a social problem that plagues the whole city and runs from the suburbs to the center, passing through the open veins of Milan, along the train lines, trams and subways that lead from the rusty periphery to the center, bright and clean, exhibited in the window, ready for sale. The project goes on thanks to a collaboration with the homicide section, after a first phase of fieldwork with the radiocar, the front line intervention unit that faces every day from petty crime to organized crime.
