Georgia Day of First Republic is a major public holiday in Georgia. It is observed on

May 26 every year. The nation declared its independence from Russia on this day in 1918.

Georgia, a Eurasian nation and a previous part of Soviet Union or USSR, remembers the

constitution of an independent and self-governing Republic of Georgia on May 26, 1918

prior to its incorporation into Soviet Russia in 1922. The freedom of the country was

reinstated in 1991 after the breakup of USSR.
