The Lost Prophets

These photomontages depict an arcane netherworld set somewhere in the mid 19th century American South. Created in the realm of historical fiction, they portray the forsaken prophets of a lost war, adrift in the destruction of ruined cities, abandoned fields and remote backwoods. Through iconography of the American South and its symbolism, this work tells the stories of its characters' struggle for survival and their hope for escape and resurrection beyond this world and the chaos of war.

In creating these photomontages I digitally combine elements from historic images with selected pieces from my own photography. Each collage contains approximately one hundred layers which are sized, blended, and merged into a single, large scale image printed onto aluminum.
