Unnatural dance

“Unnatural dance” is a photographic project on the bond and the relationship between modern man and nature.

In 1984 U.S. biologist Edward Wilson developed a scientific theory called Biophilia. According to this hypothesis, human beings subconsciously seek a connection with nature, experiencing positive feelings when they immerse in it.

All human cultures have commonly and innately considered themselves sons of Mother Earth.

When a man is immersed in nature, he’s in an environment suitable for his species. From an evolutionary point of view, that is his home.

Nevertheless, in our artificial societies, way too distant from the natural world, there is a tangible risk that this innate predisposition won’t receive adequate encouragement.

Human beings increasingly immerse themselves in natural environments in a distracted and frantic manner, without being able to forge closer ties with them. This new way of feeling and living nature, led to a disharmonic approach when interplaying with it: just like dancers, we step into ancient sceneries using unnatural movements.

According to some scientists, this missing connection is the main reason why human beings are not able to become attached and protect their environment in today’s world.

“To establish an emotional bond with natural world brings with it the desire of a deeper knowledge, where the word “knowledge” gets back to its original meaning of “love”.

Stephan Harding( 2006)

The sudden disappearance of wild world, the Earth’s most lively part, not only jeopardizes the survival of our civilization, but it deeply affects human soul, tearing apart our millenary bond with nature and threatening human psychic existence.
