For the better part of documented history there has been a correlation between the rise and popularity of nationalistic ideologies and economic hardship.

For the better part of documented history there has been a correlation between the rise and popularity of nationalistic ideologies and economic hardship. Under such circumstances many channel their loss of hope into pure anger against one or the other minority groups and the rulers develop dictator-like features. In such times it is especially crucial to act against any kind of oppression or censorship.

By using a twisted logic and borrowing from the romantic-nationalistic idea that Hungarians used to be the greatest and most feared warriors of Europe coming from the Ural region, I went to study the roots we are supposedly stemming from. One of the nations still in that area are the Udmurts.

Udmurt and Hungarian people belong to the same family. The family of Finno-Ugrian people.

During the summer of 2010 I visited Udmurt villages in the Republic of Udmurtia, Mari El, Bashkortostan and Tatarstan.

Like the prodigal son in the Bible, I returned to the ancient land.
