This photographic documentation portrays an urban periphery, called San José ‘’ La comunidad ’’. This territory is like many that build Guatemala City, a hybridization of many identities, cultural resistance, dispossession and miscegenation, in which my family lived since the 1990s. The idea that it is a temporary space forges our identity, it is part of how we assume life. We think that at some point we will return to a place of origin, because something that all of us, all of us, have clear since childhood is that we, we, are not from here. The process of distancing myself but at the same time being immersed within the community, opened doors to the intimacy of many people who trusted me to be able to photograph their spaces.
