In their collective research in Handbook of Closeness and Intimacy Dr. Debra J. Mashek and Dr. Arthur Aron are characterizing men’s friendships as ‘side by side’ and women’s as ‘face to face’.

“Women’s friendships also are more likely to involve emotional support and physical affection, whereas men’s friendships are more likely to entail the provision of practical forms of help or support.” (Debra J. Mashek, Arthur Aron “Handbook of Closeness and Intimacy”, L. E. Associates, Publishers, 2004, p. 12)

The presence of physicality in close relationships between women has a significant influence on the depth of mutual feelings and spirituality of such a relationship.

This is a particular aspect I want to focus on while working on the project as I believe it will help me bring the inner connection between people to the surface of the photograph and capture incredibly intimate moments that usually stay very private.
