A mediados del siglo XX, la capital de México tuvo un importante planteamiento de modelos urbanos, así como una nutrida migración que se concentró en distintos puntos de la periferia al Distrito Federal.

Al oriente de la ciudad, el municipio de Nezahualcóyotl en el Estado de México, fue fraccionado como un enorme barrio dormitorio asentado en un esquema reticular de terrenos con precarios servicios e infraestructura. En la actualidad es el cuarto municipio mas poblado de México y su aspecto se ha traducido en vertiginosos cambios físicos planteados desde la autoconstrucción y llevados al modo de sus habitantes.

“Neza York”, sobrenombre cargado de ironía pero también en gran medida de un significado de pertenencia e identidad, es el nombre que utilicé para desarrollar en una serie de imágenes nocturnas los diferentes escenarios que se plantean a lo largo de las avenidas de esa localidad.

“Minezota”, otro de los sobrenombres para referirse a este territorio mexiquense, es la parte que complementa al primer proyecto. Esta serie está planteada para captar los escenarios en el día, una manera de acercarse a los habitantes desde una perspectiva del paisaje urbano, donde la materialización de las construcciones son el marco perfecto que dan testimonio de la tipología que se repite en todas sus calles, caracterizando en distintos contextos una realidad del urbanismo mexicano.

The city understood as a combination of the diversity of structures in which different models of habitability are put up, is the premise aboarding through the photographic image projects "Luces de Neza York” (Lights of Neza York) and "Buenos Días Minezota” (Good Morning Minezota).

At mid-twentieth century, Mexico city had an important approach in urban models and a large migration at that time, which focused on different outlying points to Distrito Federal.

At the East of the City, Nezahualcóyotl town in the state of México, was fractionated as a huge “bedroom” area established in a reticular diagramed land with precarious infrastructure and services. Today is the fourth most populated town of México, its appearance has resulted in rapid physical changes arising from self construction and habitant’s ways of living.

Neza York, a nickname loaded with irony but also with a great meaning of belonging and identity, is the name I am using to develop a series of night time images of the different scenarios that arise along the avenues of that town.

Modified environments by architectural and graphic elements which every user brings up from their imaginary, imitating and imposing unique styles by promoting their services. Full coloured islands, emphasised by neon lights or small bulb lights that indicates peculiar ways of surviving and coexisting in the competitive territory of offers and services. Luces de Neza York (Lights of Neza York) is a representation of contemporary Neza, a population expressing through their image their ideal aspirations.

Minezota, another nickname referring to this mexican territory, is the missing piece that complements the first project. This series is considered to capture the scenarios on daylight, a way to approach the habitants from a urban landscape perspective, where realization of constructions are the perfect setting that testify the typology that repeats itself in every street, characterising in different contexts a urban Mexican reality.
