I returned alone to the prairie where I used to walk with my late wife, and I started photographing an allegorical elegy for her and on the lonely human condition. Each image was inspired by the wakas collected in the Man’yōshū, from which the present work draws both its title and the captions.
Selenite - The Stone of the Moon

In the present body of work I have set out to assemble a filter made of selenite – crystalline mineral gypsum – and to use it to shed new light on the vestiges and the war-torn history of the old-town of Gessopalena (Italy), whose habitations are dug into the gypsum rock itself.
