I grew up in a single parent household just like my mother and her mother before her. I come from a large family of women navigating through trauma, relying on each other to heal. These burdens being handed off like bad genetics, an inheritance. I am fascinated with how strange and beautiful these women are, most particularly my mother. I navigate through all this and try to make sense of how I fit in. Working through how I fit in as an insider by default and as an outsider at times through my queerness and rejection of religion.
ENFERMERIA is a series of photographs depicting familial traumatic locations. The images are of various places and family members throughout Puerto Rico and the Bronx, NY with a focus on their relationship with distressing memories.
