One night a bat entered my mother’s room through an open window. I was living with her back then. We never got along very well, I have never felt part of the family, but due to the economic crisis here in Spain, I had to move back to her house.
When I saw that little bat out of its own environment, trying to escape, I felt completely identified with it. The place that was supposed to be my home, was not. I was an outsider. I wished to escape from there, but I couldn’t, I was trapped. This happened during a time when I began to think that something was wrong with me, realizing that I don’t belong anywhere, and feeling that nobody knew me at all, that I was alone and broken.
This was the beginning of this project where I explore my identity, my sense of belonging and how this has made me the person I am today.
