Venus in Palestina

'Venus in Palestina' derived from my ongoing experience as an immigrant in Israel. Using performative photography I create an intermediate-time, where the everyday hierarchy of landscape disappears.

The series consists of self-portraits, taking in place across the country, and record staged gestures in relation to Israeli landscape. The maladroit use of an antalgic camera emphasizes the performative dimension of my acts.

The frames aspire to contain two aspects: the aesthetic and the political. In addition, disrupting the space with female body is turning the land from a 'territory' back to a 'landscape'.

I ask to confront the ‘social mutation’ that is as the heart of Israeli society, whilst creating a parallel between it and photography, which itself also acts as a hybrid in the art field.
