NAMININORU

By the entrance to my beloved forest in Ålesund, there is this cliff. In fact, it is more like a massive wall overgrown by moss and ferns. I would greet this site each time I go into the woods. During the winter, this cliff side and its vegetation are covered by magnificent ice formations, which make them resemble an organic altar.

These formations are highly elusive - due to the temperature swings and a constant flow of the water down the rock these sculptures re-shape from minute to minute. For me, this process symbolizes dynamics within a female body - an organism that is constantly evolving and ever-developing.

Images from this series are taken during my walks in early winter 2017 and they all depict the ice marvels evolving on this wall.

The title of this series is NAMININORU - which is a Japanese expression for "go with the flow/go with the time". This expression perfectly reflects the ever-changing dynamics of the ice formations. Moreover, the pronounciationof the word "namininoru" resembles strongly the sound of a water drop falling down on the rock - and this is the sound that accompanied my studies of the cliff.
