Ruin and redemption

Antarctica is a fascinating place. For me, it represents the best and worst of humanity - most species were decimated from hunting in the early 1900's. However, through the creation of the Antarctic Treaty, currently signed by 53 countries, with a sole purpose of keeping Antartica for 'peace and science', humanity managed to recover the threatened wildlife population and continues to do valuable research in this region.

This mysterious continent has become topical again in recent years because of the impact that climate change has and will continue to have on it.

Through this body of work I wanted to illustrate a contrast between both the unrivalled beauty of Antarctica while also showing the remnants of the destruction as a reminder of our power and how it can be used in the positive or the negative.
