When I went to Eritrea in 2017, I wanted to capture special pictures of the people, the landscape and the beautiful colors of Eritrea. I realized it is an advantage to be in control of a language (in this case Tigrinya), so you are more able to connect to the people, because most of the portrait pictures weren't taken of relatives, but also from people I don't know. All the pictures I took have a kind of purity, because when I asked people to take pictures of them, I didn't direct them, they did their pose on their own. It was my goal to give the audience a feeling and an idea of Eritrea, so that they can imagine how it is over there.
