Amsterdam Portraits

The project "Amsterdam Portraits" includes a wide range of portraits. All kinds of Amsterdammers, living and/or working in the capital today, were photographed in a mobile setting: a drive-by studio that was stationed at various locations in the city.

They represent the variety of Amsterdam’s current social and professional demographic. Both profession and name of those who have been photographed – people of all walks of life, but all having a close relation to the city – are indicated, acknowledging the individuality of each sitter.

Yet their gazes together share a determined, heroic and compassionate expression – an attitude towards life that the people of Amsterdam have always been known for.
